I would think that if ever there was a time when doing a more artistic interpretation of a photograph made sense, thiswould be it. When better to convert to a painting, then when shooting a painter in his environment? Yet, I’ve never come to terms in my own mind with something like this. Is it appropriate to go over the top like this? What do you think? It would really help me out if you could comment (either on the site or on Twitter.)
Used Topaz Simplify, then Topaz Adjust.

Personally, Randy, I think it is BEAUTIFUL. My opinion is that certain photos can go over the top and this is a perfect example. Great work!

Geeesh. I hate to say anything negative about HDR. I admire what can be done with it and I use it a lot. But I must say that I am getting badly od’d. I think your idea is great and HDR makes sense. But it seems to me (don’t know nuthin’) that in bringing up the person and picture that the background went to the “over-cooked” stage. It is all a matter of taste and nothing absolute in any of this. If it were me, I would “paint in” a bunch of the normal exposure level into the background using a mask(Remask 2?)to “calm it down” some. But that is just me and it is not meant as a destructive criticism in any way.

Hey Daryl, appreciate the comment. Just an FYI but this isn’t an HDR. I used a plug in (Topaz Simplify) to give the photo a look similar to a painting. But the same comments could be relevant in this case also. I could have toned down some of the image. Something I should keep in mind.

I think it is fabulous. Photography, like all art is subjective. I love the look and you are correct, this image begged for the look. Very nice.
