Looking out to Sea

Another shot taken at Wind and Sea Beach.  It is possible to take multi shot HDR’s with people in them.  You can either layer a single file to the HDR and mask in the person without movement.  Or you can yell “hold still for a minute.”  That’s what I did this time.

Hello Randy,

Nice image. Do you use the “auto bracketing” features in your camera? If not, check it out. I can take a HDR with a person in my image….even close up……a bang off the 3 “programed” exposures in 2 seconds. This will eliminate the need for the person to stay still for a longer period of tiem.

Curious, are you using Photomatix Pro or Photoshop for your HDR?

Take care,

Dan

    Hi Dan,
Thanks. Yes I always auto bracket, and if you’re lucky moving subjects (like people) get captured correctly. But sometimes there is a small amout of movement. I find some subjects move more than others.

I use Photomatix for the HDR’s. Good program. You can even do pseudo HDR with a single image.

My only criticism of this is that the horizon line doesn’t look level! These days I find that my glasses can make verticals slope if they aren’t head on but I’m pretty sure this image would benefit from a couple of degrees of rotation.
Wow, that sounds like the worst kind of carping but I just have to set my jaw and say it looks . . . wrong to me.
Sure I could download the JPG, rotate and re-crop square – in fact I did (1.37 degrees left in PaintShop) and my headache went away.
In every other way this is a pristine example of how a beach shot can look, especially the way the green leaps out, which I love.
